Training

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)

CBT is the Government backed training course to help new riders achieve a safe standard in riding a Motorcycle or Scooter before they ride on the open road. This course is the foundation for starting your Motorcycling journey and as such it is really important that you select a training school that meets your needs. We have been conducting CBTs for over 20 years and have successfully completed more than 10,000 during that time.

CBT consists of five elements, which contain both theory and practical training. Your Trainer will assess your knowledge, understanding and practical abilities as you progress through the first four elements. The fifth element is the on road element, which lasts for a minimum of two hours where you will be required to put into practise your new found skills. Your instructor will be with you all the way to ensure a safe and comfortable introduction to your riding.

How long does the course last?

Usually this is a one day course. Start time is 8am usually finishing around 4:30pm. It may take longer or you may need to break it down into longer or more flexible training modules depending on the individual. Please take the time to study and understand the highway code before you arrive for your training. Failure to do so could result in training being terminated with no refund. This is the most common cause of problems particularly for young and inexperienced road users.

Please note that if you cancel a CBT test within 7 days of your course date, no refund can be given.

What do I need to bring?

Both parts of your driving license (paper and card) or if you have the older style which is just paper you will need to bring that and your passport.

Certificate of insurance (if you are using your own bike).

MOT certificate (if you are using your own bike and it is 3 or more years old).

Most recent CBT certificate (if you have one and are using your own bike).

Glasses or contact lenses if you use them.

A packed lunch or money to buy lunch (your CBT will likely last ALL DAY).

We have helmets and protective clothing available if there are any items you do not have. The hire of any helmet or protective clothing is included in the price of your CBT – you do not have to pay any extra.

If you are using your own bike please make sure it is road worthy, taxed and displaying a full L-plate both at the front and back of the bike.

How much does it cost?

To do your CBT on your own bike is £140. If using one of our training school bikes, the cost will be £180. Any additional training needed, outside of the day’s course, will be charged at an hourly rate.

Direct Access Scheme (DAS)

In order to get rid of your L plates you need to train for and pass the DVSA practical motorcycle test. This is a 3 part process:

1) Motorcycle Theory Test

2) Module 1 Test

3) Module 2 Test

We have a wide range of bikes to cater for those who wish to do the AM, A1, A2 or A category tests. Whatever your shape or size, we will have the bike and kit to fit!

How much does it cost?

Different people learn at different speeds and come with a variety of experience. All these factors will affect how much training and bike time you will need. The prices quoted are based on average figures but you may need more, or possibly less training, however this will not alter the price you pay.

Our standard DAS fees are £1000. This includes up to 18 hours of training, using our bikes and any kit, plus one Mod 1 and one Mod 2 test fee.
